The Tech2 is a scanning device which is able to let you deep dive into the internals of the various systems in your vehicle. While generic scanners can show and decode error codes, the Tech2 has the ability to get into the details of the error. Also the Tech2 is able to set brand/type specific settings. The Tech2 is not a engine tuning tool but is able to give you good insights on the status of the car.

Vetronix made the Tech1. The original GM Tech2 was made by Hewlett Packard and used Vetronix software. Vetronix purchased the Tech2 manufacturing rights from HP. In 2003, Vetronix was acquired by ETAS, a supplier of standardized development and diagnostic tools for electronic control units. In 2006, the Vetronix Aftermarket division merged with Bosch Automotive Aftermarket, responsible for supply, sales and logistics of automotive parts for service of the vehicle. So today the Tech2 is ‘made' by Bosch.

AD 400 Tech2 Scan tool

The ‘Daddy' of all special SAAB tools, however, is the AD 400 Tech2 Scan tool. In effect, this is a hand held computer which uses PCMCIA cards onto which software is loaded for the appropriate GM family model (SAAB, Vauxhall, Suzuki etc). The scan tool is connected to the vehicle via the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) or CANBUS (controller area network bus) socket and draws power from the car.

It is hard to work on SAAB cars regularly without access to a Tech2 scan tool because the engine management systems have evolved since the days of the early 9000. Then, turning on the ignition and waiting for the management light to flash a certain number of times gave technicians a good idea what was wrong.

Now, cars like the 9-5 have two interconnected bus systems: iBus and pBus. The iBus is basically concerned with instrumentation while the pBus related to the power unit, monitoring the engine and transmission. Sensors on the pBus are interrogated all the time by the Trionic management system and if an unexpected value is returned or no signal is received, a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is triggered.

The Tech2 can retrieve DTCs: example P1805 and they can be looked up with the Workshop Information System (WIS) in the case of 9-5s or with later 9-3s, it pays to have the Tech2 connected directly to a laptop, so the fault can be read directly by WIS.

In addition to being able to retrieve and clear DTCs, a Tech2 can also be used to reset service messages, alter locking logic, recalibrate the speedometer (when 16" wheels are changed to 17" or vice versa), clone security chips for keys or update engine management software. A common need for a Tech2 arises when a SAAB is being dismantled – it is pointless recovering the radio/cd/cassette head unit unless it has been divorced from the car it was originally fitted to. Head units are married to individual cars and cannot be unlocked or decoded after they have been removed. A Tech2 is required, of course, to marry a unit that has been divorced from another car to a different vehicle. Be advised that a Tech2 kit with extras and software will cost around £3000 – for this reason, dealers will habitually charge owners for reading or clearing fault codes.

Tech2Win

Tech2Win is a PC program that executes Tech2 software on a Windows PC. Tech2Win communicates with a vehicle through a vehicle communication interface (VCI), using the MDI or an ISO 22900 PDU API compliant device.

Almost all vehicle systems supported by Tech2 will also work with the Tech2Win. The same software downloaded and executed on Tech2 will also run on Tech2Win. For that reason, the TIS2Web communication procedures used for Tech2 are also applicable for Tech2Win.

Here comes the problem: I have vxdiag vcx nano gm and u disk. I tried to install the software following the video guide but failed. When I start gm mdi manager it says Manager initialization error and I tried to open the GDS2 software, it gave another error, the system cannot find the file specified – t2w-proxy.jar. Any possible solution?

Solution:
1. You don’t need to open GM MDI manager. It is just a driver for vcx nano gds2 device. Just got it installed.
2. Don’t run GDS2 from GDS2 shortcut directly. Do Always run GDS2 from patch.

A: There is no need to change the frequency manually. It will generate the same frequency as the remote you write.

Q: Which frequency is supported by VVDI remote?

A: It supports 315/433Mhz, but doesn’t support 868/902Mh.

Q: How to renew xhorse remote?

A: No need, just use it directly.

For example, VW Passta 315Mhz was generated for the first time, and now it will be used in AUDI A6 433. Select Audi A6 directly, and then it will be Audi A6 433Mhz after generation.

Q: Can Toyota Smart Card work with general XS series remote?

The batch numbers for Xhorse remote printing, starting with E is English version, starting with C is Chinese version.

Problem 2:

Remote program error: Please use PROX key

Solution:

PROX key is XS smart remote. If you have already used the smart card, please update the remote database firmware to the newest version, take out the board and try on several positions to generate.

Problem 3:

Remote program error: SN2 model detected, special key clone only support wired key, please change key module.

Solution: For special clones can only use Xhorse wired remote key.

Problem 4:

Attention: This BE key doesn’t have bonus points, its bonus points was already used!

Solution:

1.For vvdi mb/vvdi key tool plus, please update the software and firmware to the latest version.

2.Bonus points can only be collected once for each key, 200 points at a time. Don’t repeat the collection with the same key

3.If you have updated to the latest version and collect it for the first time, it will be reminded that there are no bonus point. The r&d technical will analyze whether the bonus point are missed according to the log.

Problem 5: The matched Xhorse BE key can start the car, but can’t control it remotely.

Solution:

1.Check if the key frequency is correct. You can judge the key frequency by the original key and change the frequency of BE Key to be consistent with the original one.

2.If the frequency is correct, regenerate the key file, and then rewrite the data by changing the key bit.

3.If tried both 1 and 2 still failed, it is basically a key problem. Change the key.

New functionality in JPRO Command Module — Mack and Volvo includes:

The Multiple Diagnostic Interface 1 & 2 (MDI/MDI 2) are designed to connect a vehicle to a host PC computer application for data transfer and Electronic Control Unit (ECU) reprogramming. The MDI 1 and MDI 2 (Fig. 15) are configured to communicate with the host computer using the MDI Manager PC application software.

A software update was recently released —as part of a staggered rollout beginning on June 15, 2022 — for the MDI Manager. With the update, the MDI Manager will be split into separate applications: one for the MDI 1 and a second one for the MDI 2. These applications will be installed during the update along with a new launcher.

After the update, there will continue to be one MDI Manager shortcut on the desktop for both MDI’s. However, when launching the new MDI Manager (without an MDI connected via USB), users will need to select the MDI 1 or the MDI 2 in order to launch the appropriate manager. (Fig. 16)

The update will also impact the J2534 Device Explorer in the Service Applications (Techline Connect, GDS2, etc.). It will no longer be possible to view both the MDI 1 and the MDI 2 in the available devices when connecting a device in Techline Connect (TLC). “Change Device” must be selected when the Device Explorer pops up in order to switch between the MDI 1 and MDI 2. (Fig. 17)

After the update, the MDI 1 will continue to function as usual. However, this will be the last software update for the MDI 1. Future updates to the MDI 2 firmware/software will not require an update the MDI 1.

Medium-Duty Dealers First

Medium-duty dealerships will receive the update first with additional dealerships being added in the July/August timeframe.

The update will also include MDI 2 support for the J1939 protocol that is required on select Low Cab Forward Medium Duty vehicles.

When the update becomes available to your dealership, the MDI Manager update will begin when logging in to Techline Connect. As a user, full administrative rights are needed to install the update. If encountering issues with the MDI Manager not installing or functioning properly, right click on the TLC icon on the desktop and select “Run as administrator.”

This post show a guide on how to install Porsche PIWIS 18.100 universal image on your laptop.

Getaibose made some modifications:
* Win XP tweaks (enable right click on taskbar, enabled win xp start menu etc)
* Win XP activated (no more 3 days left to activate errors)
* Uninstalled all Panasonic drivers and other drivers not critical to the system
* Deleted un-necessary files
* Windows XP fully updated from Windows Update
* Uninstalled POSES and PET (to make download smaller, can re-install them if you wish – refer folder “Hardlock fix for installing PET and POSES”)
* changed adobe reader from German to English
* Updated WinRAR
* 100% defragmented image
* Made into universal image (can restore to VM or any laptop compatible with Windows XP)
* Restored Size ~ 17.9 GB (this is excluding pagefile storage)

Porsche PIWIS II Universal Image Installation:

If you are restoring the PIWIS image to a laptop,use software like RUFUS to make the restore program ISO file to a bootable USB thumb drive.

If you are restoring to a virtual machine,simply mount the iso on the virtual machine.

If the screen gets stuck at this command prompt,simply close the prompt

Click restore and then click the path button.Select the backup file(adi.file) and click on next.

The program detects the selected backup is a system image,would you like to do a system restore?

Click “Yes”

Make sure this box is checked

Select the drive into which you want to restore the image and click next

Make sure that the “enable universal restore” box is checked,so that the system can boot on your laptop.

If you are restoring the image to a virtual machine,you can leave this option unchecked.

Make sure that on unallocated space remains at the end of the partition

Next,click “OK” and then click “Start Restore”

After restoring and booting into the system,install drivers and imprint the texter with the method of your choosing.Turbofans method can be found in the following folder.

Restore Porsche PIWIS II Universal Image to VM:
1.Create two virtual hard drives – lets say – VHD-A and VHD-B;VHD-A will be the main VHD of your VM into which you are restoring the image.
VHD-B is just a temporary VHD to hold the image file for restore
2. Copy the image file (.adi file) into VHD-B
3. Attach both VHD-A and VHD-B to the VM
4. In the VMs CD drive, mount the recovery disc iso
5. Start the VM and boot into the recovery CD
6. Follow the instructions given in the archive to restore the image
7. After image finish restoring, turn off the VM and detach VHD-B and unmount the recovery disc iso from the VM
8. Start the VM – after it finish initializing, install guest additions.
9. Done – you can delete VHD-B from your system

Theoretically this image should be able to restore and boot into any laptop which supports Windows XP (hopefully no BSOD on booting). Also you can restore it to a Virtual Machine

My aim with this image was to create an PIWIS image that anyone can restore and use without any difficulty.
This image might be more suited to someone restoring it to a laptop other than a Panasonic CF-30 as I have removed all the Panasonic drivers. You can restore it to a CF-30, just need to reinstall / restore all the drivers

Easiest method to re-install drivers – In the laptop you are planning to restore the image -> If you are already running Win XP in that laptop, use software called “Double Driver” to backup all the drivers. After restoring the PIWIS image, restore the drivers – hardly take 5-10 min for complete driver restore and it’s all one-click operation.

Q1: Volvo 88890300 Vocom Software cannot be updated online. How to do after you update the software?

I bought VOLVO VOCOM on February 2015. I install the PTT 1.12 on XP system and run smoothly. But today, I have updated the Tt 1.12 software to the latest version but know I get the following error:

Communication unit minitor
Connected communication unit 88890020/88840133/88890300updated.
The software in the communication unit 88890020/88840133/88890300 must also be updated to be compatible.

How to Connect 12+8 Adapter:

Locate the SGW module, take out the 12PIN connector and 8PIN connector, and then connect these connectors with the bypass cable.

Some may have j2534 wrapper driver installation error when performing GM SPS programming by GM MDI/MDI2/VXDIAG VCX NANO GM.  Here is an official workaround from GM and it’s super easy.

The solution was tested with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome on Windows 7 and Windows 10 systems though GM would rather you use IE on Win10.

GM released a new version (1.04.8.0) version of the J2534 wrapper and they force your hand into installing it, even if you have the old version. However, the installer isn’t asking for UAC permission.

I’m here to help you guys confirm that:

The Nexiq adapter is able to work perfectly with Caterpillar Electronic Technician software.

Nexiq has no problems working with Cat ET. If the Cat is in a GM truck, you will need a special Cat OBDII connector. In trucks with the standard 6/9 pin connector, there is no issues.

Works on BHL F-series , Whl excav. and wheel loaders, but better option is Cat ET

Nexiq adapters work with Cat ET on truck engines.

NOT work on construction equipment due to a different communication protocol. Will need a Cat Comm 3 for those.

Btw, spend the money on a real Nexiq or good china clone if you do….stay away from the cheap china knockoffs. They work, kinda, but for how long and no support.

Here are Nexiq USB Link adapter and CAT ET connection issues and solutions, which might help you out.

– Connection Error 434:

The reason for error 434 might be the adapterserver in the Cat software, change it for the chinese Cat server and it will work, at least here it does after the 434 error, C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Offboard Information Products, look here for “”CommunicationAdapterServer.exe”and “CommunicationAdapterServerps.dll” by me dll file was not there but I put it anyway, I copied it from a other XP computer who was working with the chinees cat adapter, however I put it in a WIN 7 computer, that was working too after the change, I m new here have no idea how to share the files, but I have them here, save the original files in a new folder, never know if you ever get a original one (-: , hope that I could help you with this info

– Connection Error 149:

Utilities -> Preferences -> Communications -> RP1210 Compilant Device then Advanced Choose USB Nexiq Link

If it doesn’t work,

Reinstall drivers and verify that you have this in the device manager

JUNGO USB LINK WINDRIVER if you missing one of this it wont work

OR

You need to run this program in compatibility mode for windows xp, sp 3 to get the nexiq to work on windows 7. i was getting the same notice that my nexiq was not a rp1210 compliant device, i went to programs and selected cat (etech), right clicked, properties, compatibility, and chose windows xp sp3. went back to cat, and the device works perfectly now. That will fix this issue

– Cannot connect to any truck after Nexiq firmware update:

No need to be updated because the result would be the same it will not work, simply reformat the laptop or use an additional USB adapter.It has been my tried and succeeded.You simply reinstall firmware v1.0

remember where the first time you connect the USB port, meaning the usb port 1, port2 on the laptop.You can also look in computer management \ device manager \ Jungo \ there should be a USB device \ windriver.Good luck.

If you are using WIN XP. / WIN 7/8 you have to reinstall the PC / notebook / formate driver C / REMEMBER Coppy your data if only one partition.After you install all the software and nexiq drives, usb vincle nexiq connect to a PC / notebook to install the new one.If you find welcom to the found new hardware wizard or click cancel driver updates.Open Computer Management \ Device Manager \ Jungo \ if there is a usb device that is an exclamation point, click disable usb device And off usb nexiq of the computer after the reinstall usb nexiq to the computer and then click enable usb device and then restart your computer and unplug the usb nexiq back of the computer.Do the same on the other port.Good luck.

Connect to a computer usb nexiq vehicle.CAUTION cancle welcome to the new hardware found.go to Control panel \ administrative tools \ computer management \ device manager \ Jungo – usb device — click disable – unplug usb nexiq vehicle from computer.Then connect back to the computer usb vehicle nexiq — click enable usb devices – usb nexiq vehicle back off of the computer — restart the computer .

Customer problem: I have received the VAS6154 device. I install ODIS 5.1.6 on Win7/ 64 bit, but I have a problem connecting to the vehicle (all 3 devices work identically). The first time I connect to a vehicle, it recognizes the vas6154 interface. If I disconnect and reconnect the interface then the interface is no longer visible in ODIS. This appears on USB or WIFI and appears every time. After that I have to shut down ODIS and restart. I’m asking for help!!!vas6154 original vas 6154a

The VCX Manager and ODIS 5.1.6 software cannot be opened at the same time. If you restart the ODIS software and can connect well, it indicates that it can use normally.

1. First,if you pc has anti-virus software.pls close that. and if you pc is with network,disable the network or unplug the network cable.
2. Then open the hdd.open the alldata file.open the file”alldata 10.53\AllData.10.53.1000.101_Install_Disk_2013.08\AFW_10530813″

now we need to add databse.add dm and imp.dm1 is”H:\01.alldata 10.53\DM01Q313″.so we choose h.

and copy.and the paste.you need choose”enable data caching”

then we add DM. DM TOTAL has 01-16,we need add one by one,.from dm1 to dm16.

watch my step.now add imp file. it is has imp01-imp70.watch my step.also need from 01-70.one by one.

you must add one by one,from imp01-imp70.i skip this.you can add yourself.

Got BMW ICOM Next not connecting to ISTA because it need firmware update I try to login with internet explorer but I didn’t get the setup page. I don’t know if it’s IP problem or what.

Here is the itool radar shot:

Advice:

Try that:
192.168.8.1:60080
LOG IN with following:
Username: root
Password: NZY11502 or NZY1150263

Download iTool Radar, connect the ICOM directly to your computer, and it should read the ip address from the ICOM. Once you have the IP address, then you can proceed to log onto it using chrome or microsoft explorer browser with the provided credentials above.

If you did exactly as above, but with no luck. Then make an restore usb and reflash with this!

Then create a restore USB by following the following instructions:

A portable USB mass storage device (USB stick) that is at least compliant with USB 2.0 and is formatted with the FAT32 file system is required as additional hardware.

1. Create a text file user.settings with the following content: ConnectionMode=xxxxxx * 1 (default *2 : DHCP) Ip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (default: 0.0.0.0)
Netmask= xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (default: 0.0.0.0)
Gateway=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (default: 0.0.0.0)

Pay attention to the upper and lower case letters!

* 1 Possible parameters for ConnectionMode: STATIC_IP, DHCP, APIPA * 2 default = factory settings

2. Copy the file user.settings onto the USB stick.
3. If the ICOM NEXT A is ready for operation (SYSTEM LED permanently lights up green), the USB stick is to be connected to the unit (a connected MOST diagnosis adapter is to be unplugged). The red light chain starts after approx. 10 seconds (see 4.2.7.).

The saved settings are persistently overwritten. The green light chain starts once all the data has been updated. In this state, the unit can be addressed at the new IP (even without a restart). If the red light chain does not start, the user.settings file on the USB stick could not be read. If the green light stays off, an error has occurred while the LAN configuration was being written. For analysis purposes, the ICOM NEXT A saves the file user.settings.log with the error description to the USB stick.

 

or possibly as follows after that you copy the necessary files:

1.3. Connect the USB stick to the ICOM Next.

1.4. Press and hold the button located on the right-hand side of the ICOM Next, next to the OBD II cable connection socket.

1.5. Continue to hold the button, connect the device to the vehicle’s OBD II jack and keep the button pressed until the LEDs on the ICOM Next glow red.

1.6. Release the button and within five seconds, push the button three times. This starts the firmware update.

Note: The update may take several minutes. Do not disconnect the ICOM Next as long as any LED glows red.

1.7. When all LEDs on the ICOM Next have stopped glowing, the Emergency Firmware Update is complete. You can now disconnect the USB flash drive.

1.8. IMPORTANT: When the Emergency Firmware Update is finished, the ICOM Next must be connected to your network with a LAN cable in order to be reconfigured since all previous settings have been lost. If there is a “user.settings” file on the USB flash drive, it will be installed after the firmware update.
